In reality, China is one of the world's largest producers of bakery products, with an annual volume exceeding 20 million tonnes. The main production centers are located in the major cities of the eastern coast — Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, where Western baking traditions are actively adapted to local tastes. The zero figure is likely due to the fact that only traditional European bread varieties were included in the statistics, while the bulk of the products are steamed buns (mantou) and other national items.
