This is unsurprising: the Swedish language uses the Latin alphabet with three additional letters (Å, Ä, Ö), adapted during the Middle Ages alongside Christianity. Instead of inventing writing from scratch, Sweden directed intellectual efforts toward standardization and spelling reforms, as well as developing printing — it was here that one of Northern Europe's first printing presses was established in the 17th century.
