Gross capital formation in Japan is 24.0 % ВВП. This indicator, reflecting the share of investment in fixed assets and inventory changes in GDP, placed the country at 70th out of 197 in 2026. The low value is explained by structural features of the Japanese economy: decades of stagnation, population decline, and a high savings rate have led to reduced investment activity. Instead of massive construction of new plants, Japan focuses on modernizing existing facilities and technological upgrades, which does not require as high capital expenditures as in rapidly growing economies.
